Breaks or (fundamental) changes in shared social and institutional norms and practices in educational institutions, such as schools and classrooms, pose challenges for those involved, as previous routines and habitual patterns no longer apply. The actors in the organisations are challenged to develop and establish new ways of coping with their shared everyday lives in the short and medium term. Even if they are experienced as a crisis in the immediate term, such situations also represent opportunities for learning and reflection in the short and medium term, as routines and practices lose their self-evident nature. The lecture will illustrate the theoretical considerations along different forms of school teaching and the experience of the coronavirus pandemic by teachers and students from non-privileged social spaces in Germany and Canada
