Funding Educational Research – Current Information on Funding Opportunities
The Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth (BMBFSFJ) supports research in the federal interest. Equal opportunities for education and participation for all – this is the overarching educational policy goal to which the funded research is intended to contribute. The Federal Government promotes empirical educational research both institutionally and through project funding.
The presentation will outline the objectives and priorities of current research funding within the framework program for empirical educational research. In addition, various aspects of project funding will be addressed, including funding and evaluation criteria as well as decision-making processes. Following the presentation, participants will have the opportunity to ask brief questions.

Panel discussion participants: Prof. Wulf (Berlin), Prof. Scheunpflug (Bamberg), Prof. Jörissen (Erlangen), Prof. Mattig (Dortmund)
Our time is marked by profound ruptures, transformations, and reorientations. Addressing these in education, science, and culture worldwide is the mission of UNESCO. Using the following questions as a starting point, the global significance of UNESCO for education will be discussed:
In light of numerous resistances, how can inclusive, equitable, high-quality, and lifelong education be developed within the global community, and what roles do participation and cooperation play in this process?
What contribution can UNESCO’s work make to education for peace and sustainability?
What role does culture play in this regard, both in the narrower and in the broader sense?
How can UNESCO support the development of resilience against the many forms and structures of violence?
Information event organised by the EWFT
The Educational Science Faculty Association (EWFT), founded in 2002 in Bielefeld, is the association of universities with educational science institutions. It represents the subject-oriented interests of universities and teacher training colleges and works together with other faculty associations in the General Faculty Association (AFT) in the field of research and academic teaching. The tasks of the Educational Science Faculty Association are the exchange of information and consultation, as well as the representation of common interests of educational science on topics such as quality assurance, standards in research and teaching and digitalisation.
Information event organised by the WERA & EERA
The World Education Research Association (WERA) and the European Educational Research Association (EERA) introduce themselves.
WERA is an international organisation that focuses on promoting high-quality educational research on a global level. WERA was founded in 2009 with the aim of promoting educational research worldwide, supporting the exchange of ideas and best practices, and strengthening cooperation between researchers, institutions and organisations at an international level.
The main objectives of EERA are to promote cooperation and exchange between educational researchers in Europe, to strengthen the quality of educational research, and to represent the interests of educational researchers at the European level. EERA organises the annual European Conference on Educational Research (ECER), one of the largest and most important conferences in the field of educational research worldwide.

Open research practices are becoming increasingly important – both as part of good scientific practice (DFG 2025) and due to growing demands from research funding bodies, academic journals and ethical guidelines. This often raises the question of how openness can be implemented in practice in the complex day-to-day world of research – and what support is needed from research infrastructures or advisory services.
In this information event, we will present two key services for educational research and reflect together with participants on specific challenges and support needs: the Education Portal and the Research Data Education Network (VerbundFDB).
The Education Portal, together with the Subject Information Service (FID) for Educational Science and Educational Research, enables research literature to be found. In particular, it supports complex literature searches for systematic reviews and enables targeted search strategies through a new search interface (Röschlein et al. 2024). To promote open access, the Education Portal, together with the specialist repository peDOCS, also offers financing solutions through crowdfunding and a platform for publishing diamond open access journals.
Financing solutions through crowdfunding and a platform for publishing Diamond Open Access journals.
VerbundFDB offers practical support for research data management throughout the entire project. Among other things, the Standardised Data Management Plan (Stamp) will be presented, which facilitates the structured planning of data management and provides concrete practical examples (DDP-Bildung & VerbundFDB, 2024). Other services such as the central data search for educational research and options for archiving your own data will also be presented.
The aim of the session is to inform participants about existing services and to reflect together on specific obstacles to open research practice in order to further develop the infrastructure services in line with needs.

Information Event of DFG
This event will provide up-to-date information on DFG funding opportunities.
Which programmes are suitable for which research projects? What needs to be considered when submitting an application? How does the review and decision process work, and what criteria are used for the review?
There will also be an opportunity to discuss questions and issues relating to applying for DFG funding with a representative from the DFG head office.
